3 Ways You Can Save on Your Energy Bills

HVAC repair

Heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are a very important component of any given household. In the United States, HVAC systems account for about 48% of the total energy use of a typical American household. Improvements to one's HVAC unit makes a ton of difference when it comes time to pay the bills. And needless to say, HVAC repairs aren't exactly cheap!

How should one go about improving their HVAC system? There are a number of things you can do but here are three heating and cooling tips to get you started:

Control Your Thermostat:

This is probably the most doable step you take to lower your HVAC bills. In the winter, set your thermostat between 68 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and between 65 and 68 degrees at night. That way, your house will stay comfortable but won't overuse your system. If you're on vacation during the winter months, set your thermostat to 60 degrees. That should be enough to keep your house in good shape.

Insulate Your HVAC System:

Insulation is critical when it comes to HVAC installation and maintenance. Airflow issues can lower your system's efficiency by 15%. Proper insulation, however, can improve the system by as much as 20%, if not more.

Switch to ENERGY STAR Units:

Making the switch to ENERGY STAR heating and cooling equipment will make a ton of difference for your energy bills. ENERGY STAR room A/C units, for example, are 10% more efficient than conventional ones and ENERGY STAR central A/C units are 15% more efficient. Overall, using energy efficient units can reduce your house's overall energy consumption by 20% to 50%!

Of course, if all else fails, you can always rely on the help of reliable heating and cooling companies! For more information about these companies, including HVAC repairs, feel free to leave a comment or question at the bottom.
